A new dream kitchen is born out of a disjointed series of odd shaped rooms and badly worn surfaces.

Above the powerful but quiet stainless steel exhaust hood is a "light and solar chimney" shaft topped with an operable skylight. Left open all summer until the first cold nights of fall, it allows the heat in the kitchen a convenient and effective escape and is enhanced by solar heat gain through the windows on 3 sides. The location of the light shaft brings bright slices of sunshine into the heart of the kitchen at different times of the day throughout the year.
